My Thoughts on Cinderella

the forgetful one who loses her shoe
– King

So I watched Cinderella last Thursday, and OMG, it was so beautiful! I’m so EXCITED to talk about it right now so I’m just gonna run through details and my thoughts on the movie. I’m (still) overwhelmed with emotions.

First off, cinematography was incredible. Locations for each scene were just perfect and that panoramic view of Prince Charming’s (Richard Madden) kingdom is legit. If the decor of the King’s (Derek Jacobi) room, design of the halls, and that scene of the Prince getting a portrait of himself weren’t enough to project a regal image, then that wide shot would. A wide courtyard, tall pillars, landscaped gardens, gorgeous fountain, and a grand gate.

Also, the scene where Fairy Godmother (Helena Bonham Carter) casted her spells in Cinderella’s (Lily James)yard was also, to my opinion, beautifully shown. Transformations of animals for the carriage weren’t overly done nor were they too toned down. I absolutely loved the effects they did for the pumpkin and Cinderella’s dress. It’s MAGICAL! Lessons from Mom

At some point in our lives, things we expect to happen don’t exactly occur as planned. Or don’t happen at all. We don’t get anywhere close to achieving whatever pictures we pinned on our vision board. No matter how hard we try, we’re either thrown off course or frozen at standstill. The former, my friends, was my case for the past week.

It might be that I was too distracted by far more important things or that my body was just recuperating, but I wasn’t ticking off most items in my to-do list like I normally do. After being awfully sick for a week, I finally got better, yet somehow, as soon as I got back to work, I relapsed. Mom was upset about it and nagged even more about prioritizing health over work and, reading between the lines, spending time with family on weekends instead of doing overtime. Sometimes I wonder how mothers could sound annoying even if they were only preaching about the right thing. It is as if they don’t lose energy from their lecturing. Although true enough, we being their children can’t seem to get enough of their lectures seeing how we still don’t get things right.

So over the weekend, instead of cursing at myself for being once more quarantined to the bed, I headed downtown with my mom and Hulk for his much-needed haircut. We strolled at a mall afterwards, and Hulk was obviously happy to ride on a trolley at the grocery. The good thing about him and grocery is that they are friends. He isn’t the type who endlessly points at kid-loving-food-items and petulantly asks us to buy it. He would simply touch and ask questions for curiosity’s sake.

Later that night and the following day for lunch, mom prepared a healthy meal for all of us. By healthy, I meant vegetable stew, which we also shared with our lovely neighbors. Sharing blessings and enjoying healthy meals–definitely energy boosters! 🙂

“The most important thing in life, he said that night, is to love and be loved, and to do what you love…it was so inspiring to see someone at 81, still so happy going to work.”

“A series of fortunate events”

Several times since I posted the first entry for this meme, I felt a second entry might as well just fly out the window or into the trash. I’ve been sickly when I got back here from the south, mostly from the common cold. Other members of my family aren’t as sickly as I am, but the past week, they all felt a bit unwell. Perhaps it’s my mindset–if the mind thinks so, the body gets sick as well–that’s making me feel ill, which was stupid of me to think. I skipped on extra precaution this time (taking medicine and extra vitamins) and ended up with an awful case of stiff neck and colds.

In spite of that and several other bad news, life goes on and I’m thankful.

First off, I’m glad I successfully stopped myself from buying unnecessary items for 49 days–and counting! It’s part of my new years resolution: to only spend on “what I/they need”, and not on “what I like/want”. About time to take financial responsibility to another level. Also, I’m preparing for some changes I would like to happen to my life, which would definitely take most of my savings. On a side note, I’m carefully considering a minimalist lifestyle. It seems difficult and troublesome, but environmentally friendly. I haven’t gotten to societal concerns though.

Secondly, I was able to spend fun times with my mom, Hulk, a family friend and her dog under the sun by the beach. Growing up, God has blessed me with a birthplace surrounded by ocean. Five minutes of walking from where I live and we all could enjoy the beach. The tide was coming in when we came, which was good for Hulk. That was his first ‘I’m-aware-I’m-swimming’ moment so I was glad there was still enough time for him to adjust to his surroundings, especially since swimming is all about trust. Continue reading

It’s St. Valentine’s Day!

Happy Valentine’s day!!

Today started so early for me. I’m not a morning person but I woke up at 6:30am and got Valentine’s day going, which didn’t really mean much to anyone but me. Camped out in front of my PC all day with work. I also showered myself with love (think OTPs,blogging,TV series) and sent out greetings to friends.

I’d like to share Valentine’s day with WordPress too, so I made a playlist of some of the love songs I jam to on this kind of day. Every place has its own ways of celebrating this particular day of love, but one of the common denominators would be music. It is universal after all. I limited it to 14 songs though.

We all should celebrate love everyday..like as much as we do today.
